ROUND DANCING

Dancing with the Western Stars

Round Dancing is part of the Modern Western Square Dance Movement. It is a form of ballroom dancing with a caller (termed "cuer" for Rounds). Whereas Square Dancing is mostly walking in patterns, Round Dancing also involves rhythms and footwork. As with squares, the couples are part of a larger team. First WSD/FCD Rounds & Squares Dance: Walk & Dodge the Rain

John Flora cued the Rounds at the joint WSD/FCD dance on February 16, 2013.

PRE-ROUNDS. Round Dance participants arrived at the dance one-half hour before the square dancing began. A variety of songs and rhythms were performed between 7:00 and 7:30 p.m.

SINGLE-ROUNDS. The current practice at WSD/FCD dances is to present one cued song at 8:30 p.m. and another at 9:30 p.m. This is different than DOUBLE-ROUNDS where two songs (usually two different rhythms) are offered back-to-back (such as the system of Patter Call followed by Singing Call in a square dance tip).
